Ponding Water Repair

Ponding water is defined as water that remains standing on the roof surface 48 hours after a rainfall. Where ponding water conditions exist, and all drains have been checked and determined to be free flowing, a thorough assessment of the roof assembly may be required to determine the best solution to eliminate ponding. Possible remedies include:

  1. Installation of additional area drains in low areas.
  2. Installation of wall scuppers.
  3. Installation of tapered insulation and/or crickets.

If the ponding condition cannot be eliminated, perform more frequent inspections to monitor and maintain the membrane surface affected by the ponding condition. Consider the application of a vapor barrier grade roof coating as a temporary measure and implement permanent solutions at the time of reroofing.
